Swiss Post’s self-service kiosks have spent the last few years cutting wait times across the postal operator’s branch network. Now, powered by an expanded deployment from queue management and self-service partner Wavetec, those same kiosks are being turned into an advertising and monetization channel, without touching the queueing experience customers already know.
Wavetec’s original rollout gave Swiss Post a full customer-flow stack across the network; Lobby Leader for branch management, F-19 ticket dispenser kiosk, a centralized cloud engine, Spectra dashboard, web and app-based ticketing, and screens that combine queue status with promotional content. The relationship has since scaled to 132 branches nationwide.
The latest phase builds directly on the Donatello digital signage foundation, running on the same hardware already installed at Swiss Post branches: Wavetec’s Ticket Dispenser F-19, a floor-standing kiosk with a 17″ portrait touchscreen, a built-in ticket printer and an ADA-compliant design. When the F-19 isn’t actively issuing a ticket, its screen no longer sits idle, it now runs scheduled ad content managed through Wavetec’s Donatello media player, the same engine that already powers Swiss Post’s in-branch signage. One machine now performs two jobs: queue ticketing and digital-out-of-home advertising, on infrastructure Swiss Post already owns.
Wavetec has also added a printed layer to the model. Every ticket issued at a kiosk now carries a QR code linking to a promoted web destination, alongside the queue number itself. Ticket stock has unused white space by default, Wavetec’s platform lets that space carry a QR code, brand messaging, or a short text placement instead of going unused.
Together, the idle-screen ad slots and the QR-coded ticket stub give Swiss Post two new, always-on advertising surfaces layered on top of infrastructure originally deployed for queue management. Because both live inside Wavetec’s existing central configuration and dashboard layer, Swiss Post can schedule, rotate and report on campaigns from the same portal used to monitor branch KPIs and teller performance; no separate ad-serving system to bolt on.
The model gives Swiss Post a way to generate revenue from its branch network by selling this ad space to third-party brands and partners, turning customer service infrastructure that was purely a cost center into a small incremental revenue line, on top of the wait-time and efficiency gains the original deployment already delivered.
Retailers and service operators more broadly are moving in the same direction. Deloitte’s 2026 Global Retail Industry Outlook found that a large majority of surveyed retail executives expect industry revenue and margins to grow this year, and WARC Media forecasts global retail media ad spend to reach close to $200 billion in 2026, making up around 16% of total global ad spend; a sign that physical, first-party touchpoints like service kiosks are increasingly being treated as monetizable media, not just operational tools.
Because the ad-on-ticket and idle-screen-ad model sits on Wavetec’s standard kiosk, signage and central configuration stack, it isn’t specific to postal services. The same empty ticket space and idle-screen windows exist on Wavetec kiosk deployments in banking, telecom and government service centers, meaning any operator running Wavetec’s self-service or queueing hardware can switch the same monetization layer on without new hardware.
